It’s Time to Start Selling Stuff!

Posted on: August 3rd, 2013 by Orrick the Mighty

These are exciting times for the dev team. We are seeing alpha testers explore and discover the secrets of the first village of the Faire, ride the ziplines and maple leaves, jump on the giant mushrooms, and try out jumping/floating/bowing/waving/twirling. We had great fun meeting some of you in the Festivale, and look forward to more parties there.

It’s been intense since we’ve opened the alpha gates. We’ve been seeing more people in the Faire at a time, and that’s really helping us find bugs. That’s what alpha is all about! Thank you for helping us make Mage Faire a reality!

We’ve also been very busy getting ready for the next important step: announcing that the World-Building Magic Pack is now available for sale! You can purchase it HERE for $5.

What do you get with the World-Building Magic Pack?

You will get a number of things now, and a number of things later as they become available.

Right now, you’ll receive the core world-building spells and a set of spell sources, allowing you to fill the Faire with beautiful, but ephemeral, creations that vanish after you leave the area. It also includes a special World-Building version of the alpha game client.

In the near future, you will also receive your very own estate — a home to customize and fill up as you wish. There, you can create or conjure things that will last until you decide to Destructo them to redecorate. You will get access to any future World-Building spells and sources as they become available in-world from the Doni.

Why buy now, you ask?

Well, it’s a wonderful way to give us support and tell us that you care! A number of wonderful mages have asked on the Forums and in emails for a way to offer us financial support. This is it! We will be very grateful for your help. And did we mention that it will put the very first Mage Faire world-building magic into your creative hands right now? This magic is powerful and fun!

How does this affect our alpha test plans?

Alpha will continue as planned. We are SO grateful to the generous alpha testers that have tried out the Faire and given us invaluable feedback. We will continue to roll out new features for bug testing and attempt to stress our servers with ever larger groups of mages. The free alpha client for Windows is available HERE.

If you purchase the world-building magic pack, you’ll not only be an alpha tester, you’ll also be a magic-wielding mage. You’ll get your own estate soon, and be able to practice, play and create with magic in your estate and in the Faire.

We are excited to be taking this next step. Thank you all again for your support and good wishes!

Apprecio!
Orrick the Grateful

I have followed instructions several times and just cannot get into the Alpha Forums. I get kicked to World Press which does not recognize my MF login. I suppose that they want me to create a WP account but I’d rather not. I already have too many PWs. I fell out of the Alpha test and could not climb back in. I couldn’t describe that because I can’t get into the secret Forums. In the meantime, I found TUG and am having a wonderful time with that and no problems accessing their Forums and have not “fallen out” of that game.

@mage1 and @BribAnnie, we’re really sorry you’re having problems. This last week especially has been really crazy, so I wasn’t able to keep up with the emails. Sorry.

We understand that some people are having trouble accessing the alpha forums. But we’re having trouble figuring out why it works for some people and not others. If we can’t fix this soon, we’ll switch to a different forum software package.

I have not been able to get in to the alpha site, I did leave a message for you in the forums. The internet cannot even now, connect to your site. I will try again tomorrow.

I’m sharing a computer with a fellow mage until the Mac version comes out, so am wondering whether the World-Building version of the client allows logging in with or without the pack, or if both versions can be installed concurrently (in case my partner mage doesn’t want to get the pack).

I’m glad to be able to support Mage Faire and grateful the price is doable on a slim income. I like most of the bit of content released so far and am eager to try out the ideas to be implemented later.

You should be able to install the two in different folders (for example, C:\Program Files\Mage Faire Online and C:\Program Files\Magic Pack). Then just run whichever one you want. Only one will work on the same computer at a time, though.

I’m stuck unable to enter currently. Says server not found when i try to log in . Is there somewhere OUTSIDE the game that i can look to see a server status so i can start trouble shooting??
Any ideas if Chrome is the problem ? Sad panda that I’m stuck outside….
Also_ i got an email (thanks! ) that gives me user id and pw for what appears to be Alpha FOrums at word press, but when i use it – just seems to send me to magefare online front page. If the alpha forums are there- i cant tell it. Thanks!

@derenitycat Great idea to post server status outside the game. We’ll look into it.
The confusing alpha forums require that you login, and then navigate to http://www.magefaireonline.com/alphaforums/ yourself.
Sorry for the confusion, we’re working on making the alpha forums easier to use.

I just bought the magic pack and cannot wait to test it out!!!

This “game” is just meh for me. I can’t do anything yet so that’s why I am not calling it a game. I fell out twice this week and the game just shut off. Yesterday I had a fine time wandering around but got bored very quickly. I am on Chrome and Windows serenitycat so I’m not sure it’s a Chrome problem. The magic pack may be a way to add a bit of life into this game, but I think I will just keep observing from a limited distance for a bit. The summer is winding down and I will have less time to play anyway soon.

As happy as I am that you’re giving people a chance to contribute who have the extra funds, it bums me out that it’s already a “pay to play” game. As a college student without any extra money, I am disappointed that I have to wait until I have the extra cash to keep alpha testing.

I loved wandering around in game, but now there’s not much I can do without paying the money :/ I would love to test out new features, but I just can’t justify paying money for something I don’t even know will work for me.

Was able to access alpha forums a couple of time..No longer and I’m not sure why because I’m repeating the same steps, but I agree, it’s a confusing and circuitous route to something that should be simple.

I installed the new alpha version of the game last night and was able to chat and spend a few minutes exploring. Now I can’t access it at all. Getting the same ” Cannot find server” message…” Chrome and Windows also,so maybe it’s an incompatibility problem.
