A Wonderful Thing, A Sad Thing

Posted on: December 26th, 2012 by Orrick the Mighty

A wonderful thing has happened to us at Mage Faire. A number of Glitch refugees have discovered us and are expressing interest in trying us out, even helping us out with alpha testing. Many have sent warm and very touching messages to us. A special Apprecio to JW for starting it all by finding us and telling others. We are grateful and delighted. But we also recognize that this is happening because of something very sad — the closing of Glitch. People outside of the MMO world just don’t understand what the closing of an MMO can mean to its players. If you spend enough time in an MMO that you truly love, then that MMO becomes more than a game. It becomes another home. A place to live, and a place to meet new friends and neighbors. MMOs are an amazing way for fantasy geeks like us to enjoy immersing ourselves in a fantasy world. But unlike fantasy book series or movies that can always be revisited, when an MMO shuts down, it is gone forever. Your home is gone forever.

In real life, losing your home is one of the most stressful and devastating events you can experience. Intellectually we recognize that losing a virtual home does not threaten us physically or financially. But to our hearts the loss is very real. Losing your avatar is like losing a piece of yourself. And losing contact with your MMO friends is every bit as real as the loss of real-world friends. Even non-players have experienced the shutdown of SWG, City of Heroes, Glitch and other MMOs via live feeds and YouTube. Witnessing the last few minutes of an MMO, right before the servers shut down, listening to players say goodbye and thanks to their friends and to the world itself, knowing that players are shedding real tears — feels disturbingly similar to witnessing that Mayan calendar thing made real.

So, why am I telling you what you are probably already well aware of? Because I want you to know that we know. That we realize that many of our future mages will be looking, not just for a new game, but for a new home. That choosing us, or any other MMO, as a new home requires a leap of faith on your part. That with the great power of creating an MMO comes great responsibility.

There are a number of reasons why MMOs shut down. The revenue may be insufficient to support the size of the dev studio and the cost of running their game servers. Investors may become disappointed by the profits from their niche market.

No one can say what the future holds, but we can say this. Mage Faire does not have investors — we are self-funded. This means there is no outsider to force us to pull the plug, or demand that we go after a larger combat MMO market. As indies, we can follow our hearts and pursue our dreams. Mage Faire is the result of doing just that. And when we open it, it’s going to be our new home. We hope that it will become yours as well.

  1. Palindrome says:

As one of the Glitchen the suffered this great loss in our hearts, I’d like to thank Mage Faire for dedicating a blog to Glitch. I’d love to see Mage Faire flourish in its own time, and as you aptly say, become not just a new game for us, but a new home.

  2. Sofywofy (Elena Slusser) says:

As an orphan of not only Glitch, but Faunasphere before it as well, I am heartened by the fact that you get it! Here’s hoping the third time will be the charm!

  3. Marley Cuddles says:

I’m so very touched by your blog post! Like Palindrome, I was a glitch and am looking forward to becoming a part of the Mage Faire community.

  4. Another Glitchen refugee (katyroo) here, and so glad that y’all understand what we’ve gone through in losing our homes, friends, and accomplishments in Ur.

I’d love to be an Alpha tester, but your system won’t let me sign up for it or for news.

  5. Talia says:

Thank you for posting this blog. It shows that you are willing to go that little extra distance for your players and that you care. Losing Glitch broke my heart but what i found more heart-breaking is that there is currently nothing that is comparable to everything that made Glitch so perfect. Every game I’ve found has the same bland, violent and selfish gameplay, like carbon-copies of each other.
But I’m hopeful that I can find a new virtual home here on Mage Faire. The Online Gaming World is in desparate need of unique games. I repeat- Thank you- even though your blog made me start crying all over again lol.

  6. PurpleLogic says:

As another Glitch orphan who was a Faunasphere refugee your post warmed my heart and I look forward to moving into my new home. My virtual bags are packed and I am all alight with anticipation of a new adventure! Thank you for the invite

  7. Osiris X says:

I will give this a try when it is available.

  8. Djabriil says:

I’m heartened considerably by the understanding this post shows, particularly for those who get bumped out of their homes.
I can’t wait to see how this new home develops! πŸ˜€

  9. Voluptua Sneezelips says:

Thank you so much for this blog post. It came across clearly that you do understand how great a loss the closing of a game can be, is, and has been. While reading it evoked some sadness, it was also deeply comforting.

  10. JW says:

Crying here as well. Thank you so much for understanding. I sit here with a week off from work and nothing suitable to play. I have searched everywhere-every platform, every game site, every store, every forum…or so it feels. All I want is a beautiful, combat-free game where I can create, make a home and share with friends.
I know Mage Faire will be worth the wait.

  11. Thanks so much for the blog!! What they all said, especially…hoping the 3rd time IS the charm!! Thanks JW for the nudge here!! πŸ™‚

  12. snygyst says:

What a warming commentary on our plight and such a wonderful welcome. I too am an orphan of Glitch and Faunasphere but I look forward to being with you and my friends and with hope for a great game and home.

  13. spindrift says:

Thanks, Gordon. I’m another orphaned Glitch awaiting and anticipating a new beginning. Bring it, Mage Faire!

  14. Leithwyn says:

Your understanding of our feelings gives me much needed hope for our future. As another Glitch orphan and FaunaSphere refugee I am now very much looking forward to our new beginning. πŸ™‚

  15. Chazerei says:

Wow – I am really touched by this as well, being another lost Glitchen. I look forward to seeing what y’all have in store!

  16. MJ (welshcorgi) says:

Thank you for the heartfelt post. Everything rings true. Looking very much forward to the experience of Mage Faire, and hoping to find a home here :>)

  17. WhizGidget says:

I’m another lost Glitchen…. Thank you for understanding what it means, and that we’re going to be welcome here.

I can’t wait to see what you have for us.

  18. SeerQueen says:

    Thank you so much.

  19. ElleD says:

You clearly understand and thank you for that. Faunasphere was my first experience with an MMO and both it and the community of friends I became part of there were a revelation. Mourned its loss and didn’t think anything could take its place. Then Glitch came along. I found my FS friends again and another wonderful, unique world to play in. It sounds as if we may well be three times lucky here–I’m looking forward to this new world of possibility.

  20. Lost On Land Again says:

Another lost Glitchen here. I would love to participate in the Alpah.!

  21. Axa says:

Thank you so much–it’s so heartening to see all the other Glitchen here–not only did we lose our home, but all those wonderful relationships! Looking forward to Mage Faire and a new adventure.

  22. TooTall says:

It is amazing to see all the Glitchen that have found this site and who are excited about being a part of the creation of a new and magical world. It is wonderful to see that Gordon empathizes with how we, as Glitchen, refugees from Ur, feel about losing our homes, friends, animals and who we were in our world. I am truly impressed and hopeful that we will soon be making a new home in a new world with magical fun.

  23. mira says:

Yes, grieving hard here for Glitch and before for FaunaSphere too… trying to hold on the great memories we all share. Thank you for understanding our lost and to give us the opportunity to start all over again with a touch of magic. (Yes, I said I would do more real life, and I am!! But I just need this moments of fun:))
“As indies, we can follow our hearts and pursue our dreams.” Really liked this! Sogni!

  24. Karai Killy says:

Please, please be a game based on caring and connecting, rather than something that involves beating other gamers. I want to feel like I am in a family of friends again. I am Pitti Sing, from the Glitchen world of Ur.

  25. Truly says:

Here’s hoping this one sticks. Thanks, guys, for understanding the plight of the MMO refugee. My name was Truly Scrumptious in Ur.

  26. Ustice says:

I really want to be cooperative in games. I don’t mind pve play, but I want to feel like I’m part of a team, and contributing.

  27. PANsy says:

Not sure what I can say that hasn’t already been said, but this was a lovely blog post and my anticipation for Mage Faire grows. Can’t wait to try it out with my Glitch family! ^_^

  28. Miss Coco says:

Yet another sad Glitch says thank you for this post. Losing Glitch really did feel like losing my second home, particularly since we found that there really was nowhere else to go that could compare. Reading your blog entries makes me feel like the dev team of Mage Faire shares many of the core values of the Glitch world in terms of creativity, beauty, and connection with your players. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Mage Faire comes to life!

  29. Princess Fi says:

Dear T’nara, Orrick, Ophelia & Kragnos,
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful blog. It’s easy to tell you are caring people and that means a lot! I am both a Glitch & Faunasphere refugee as well and I am so excited about Mage Faire. Can’t wait to play! You graphics are gorgeous!!

  30. Lorian says:

I followed my Glitchen companions to here, but I do not know if I have it in me to invest much in another MMO. Glitch was thus far the only place where such a strange person as me could fit in, not least of which being how handled gender, bonuses for being friendly, and the utter lack of violence. In so many ways… Nothing can replace Glitch. But this post certainly makes it seem worth at least sticking around and seeing what comes of this. Wish I could be more excited, but I’m still heartbroken. I’ll just let the other Glitchen take that on if that’s alright. πŸ™‚

  31. Athena (TMM) says:

Glitch was the first online home I found that really felt like a home. I am hoping that maybe I can find a new one here. I am SO glad to see so many other Glitchen here, since the players really were so much of what was great about the game.

  32. Hellyeah says:

By the number of comments already posted, it is an indication that the Glitch community is still strong and have truly bonded in a way that no other MMO I have been a part of. Gordon, let me extend my thanks to you and your good company for recognizing the plight of us, Glitchens. And may I close by asking, so when are you gonna let us in the fun? πŸ˜€

  33. Mal'akh says:

So many Glitchen! It feels my heart with joy.

  34. Misty Power says:

Thank you so much for your understanding post. I am just another lost glitchen looking for a new home. I think I have found it with Mage Faire. The game has some gorgeous graphics and a nice community. I cannot wait to try this game. I hope to maybe be one of the testers of this cool game!

  35. awesome sauce01 says:

i really, truly hope that this can give us what so many of us have been looking for. not only just another game to call home, but another place where we can be with our friends, and enjoy being together again. <3 it makes me happy to see so many familiar names looking forward to this πŸ™‚

  36. Piece of Serenity says:

As a now Glitch Refugee and a Faunasphere Refugee before I am very excited to get in Mage Faire and begin to explore how we will help shape this new world. We will be able to help create the world in a way that we could only dream of in Glitch. I am just as excited to have a new home to share with all the friends I have made in both previous games and I look forward to the new friends I will make.
We are all much like an extended family, we Glitchen, and we have always been there for each other with a generosity of spirit that is truly amazing to see and experience. I know we will bring that forward with us into this new world. We will grasp hands and take this step forward together.
Thank you Ann (T’nara the Wise) and Gordon (Orrick the Mighty) for this opportunity to inhabit a new world that already feels like home. What a wonderful fresh start this will be for an amazing group of people.

  37. Rev. Lightbringer says:

    *reluctantly shows interest*

  38. Brib Annie says:

I am also both an orphan of Faunasphere and Glitch. You have expressed how we feel correctly. We have lost a home and it is devastating. I have now lost two homes in less than two years. The pain is deep and made worse when “friends” say “it’s just a game”. The lack of understanding from people who have not experiences a loss of “Home” can be nearly as painful as the loss itself. I thank you for your understanding and have hopes that your offering will be successful and long lived. I look forward to joining others in your Alpha test and hope to find a new a valued home again. Thank You!

  39. Threetailfox says:

Another of the Glitchen here. I was there, at the end, when the servers restarted for Glitch, and it was the hardest thing I have done, to close that window. For “just a game” it gave me a home with fellow like minded gamers, who just liked doing things for fun, and in kindness. I look forward to seeing what this game brings as well, and look forward to the Alpha on this.

Thank you for letting us see your world.

  40. Kristabel says:

Another lost Glitch. I’ll try this out.

  41. Kristabel says:

uh wait. maybe i wont try it yet. i cant find how to get into the world. or is there even one???

  42. I’m in love with your world already, just from reading about your ideals for it!

I’m wondering how we can help financially; will there be subscriptions, or payment for luxury items, or donations, or…?

I really want this to succeed!

  43. Paige Turner says:

As another Glitch refugee, I’m thrilled to see so many Glitchen here! For me, the best thing about Glitch was the awesome people who played, hugged, high fived, and left random stuff laying on the ground in Cerbarkul just cause.

I too have spent my holidays in search of SOMETHING to play. Nothing. Nada. I broke down and played a few casual games here and there played around a little in some sandbox/pixelated/buildy games a la minecraft, but nothing compares to the quirky, strange, beautiful experience of Glitch.

I love that your philosophy seems to align so well with the Glitch community. I have high hopes! (No pressure… ) πŸ™‚

  44. Sherbert/Sonja says:

Another Glitch and FS refugee here, looking for a new home. Thank you for your beautiful post. Off to have a look round the site now.

  45. Annandale says:

So many familiar voices, all wanting to make another world together – it’s lovely that we have something to hope for now. As a survivor of FS and Glitch, I am so hoping for another game where we can co-operate and nurture things, with a good dash of self expression in the form of homes and gardens we can personalise.
I was really moved by your understanding. The friendships we made need a gentle, nice game so we have a starting point for all the wonderful social interaction – a quirky game can lead you into such wonderful conversations. Your post gives me hope that this will be that game – I really hope I have the chance to help be it through testing or financial support. And hi to all my friends here!
    Anna

  46. Lucy (Opally) says:

What a lovely post. I look forward to the game. A lot of us are probably still wandering orphans at the moment, xmas and rl getting in the way of us finding a new place to settle. Its only been a few weeks since glitch closed yet it feels so much longer than that. I havent found anywhere else yet, but already the atmopshere feels nice here. Happy Christmas!

  47. Very cool post, thank you! Looking forward to the game and reconnecting with Faunasphere and Glitch friends. *Stands in line with eager anticipation*

  48. Yvonne (Spree) says:

Yet another Glitch-and-before-that-Faunasphere-orphan here. I can only agree with my fellow Glitchen. I dearly hope to find another beautiful, fun and creative place to land. Your blog post gives some hope that this may be “it”.
    Eagerly awaiting the developments…
    Love, Spree

  49. Tatanka Pie says:

Wow just reading the comments feels like a high school reunion (but so much cooler).

The blog post and comments totally summarized what I’ve been feeling- lost, can’t find a new game that makes me want to procrastinate (I’ve been doing real work- eek), sad, etc.

Looking forward to collaborating and playing with everyone in 2013!

  50. Michael Phelps says:

us crazy glitchen will find each other somewhere on the web

  51. Riverwalker says:

It’s so nice to read your caring comments. One of the things that made Glich such a wonderful home was the bond that existed between the players and the developers. This feels like a great open door to form that connection with you and Mage Faire. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds. You are off to a beautiful start with the artwork. Happy New Year!

  52. Talia says:

Sorry to post again but just wanted to say that it looks like you have a pretty solid number of players already lol.

  53. CoffeeSnob says:

I felt relief while reading the initial post. I was a Faunasphere Refugee and the feelings I had when it went away were indescribable. I was oh so reluctant to try Glitch… Even when so many of my fellow FS friends were playing and kept nudging me to join them. Finally, in late July of 2011, I became a citizen of Ur and was surprised and amazed by how sweet, quirky and whimsical it was… Immediately falling head over heels with any and all things even remotely reminiscent of Glitch. I made so many new friends while reconnecting with past friends. So many things that we did together, from partying like maniacs to fighting the dastardly – and ultimately triumphant – Rook.

I truly hope to find the same sense of community and friendship here in Mage Faire. I am excited to be a part of the Alpha testing coming *soon* to a Winter near you (and me! lol)! It looks to be a lovely place made all the more inviting by my fellow Glitchen who will be exploring, shaping and breathing life into it.

    Long-story short: SWEET SWEETNESS!!!

  54. Gertie Mack says:

Thank you so much for posting this. I too I am a Glitch refugee and am very excited about seeing a new place open up to us. I have signed up to be an alpha tester and can’t wait to see what this new world will be like. Loved seeing all the responses from my friends here! Hi guys! See you soon! <3

  55. Reisball says:

Another Glitchen here and has signed up for alpha testing in Mage Faire. Thank you so much for understanding what we went through, and that we’re welcoming to a promisingly new home.

  56. shadowdiana says:

Your post went straight to my heart. Losing Faunasphere was indeed like losing a home…. and I sorely missed my buddies.
Then Glitch came along, and here was another opportunity! :-); again, gone. They were both non violent games, doing no harm, while allowing one to play in social groups or just wander alone, experiencing gentle worlds.
I am looking forward to what your new game has to offer, and helping build this new world with our feedback. πŸ™‚

  57. IxÆoN says:

Thank you for caring. If you build it we will come…

  58. Taco Assassin says:

This it makes me happy to see that you care so much about us. Just to let you know, because this wasn’t in my alpha signup, i am from glitch, and am desiring a new home here at magic faire

  59. Echo Spirit says:

*hugs the Magefaire peoplez* You are going to make me cry! Its so awesome that you care about us and what has happened! Thank You! This game sounds and Looks Absolutely Delightful! I am indeed a Glitch refugee and I look Forward to playing this game. <3

  60. Zoom1487 says:

Yet another homeless Glitch/ FS person. Eagerly awaiting alpha testing!

  61. Soyos says:

It is wonderful to see the possibility of another home for so many lost Glitchens. And it was not only the lose of a “home” but for many, it was the lose of a home they helped create through the Alpha testing and beta testing phases. As with not only Glich but Faunasphere as well for many of us. I can’t wait to see what new adventures await so many with this game.

  62. Atlantis says:

Hi there :)) Another ex Glitch and ex Faunasphere member…who is looking to start over again and create a wonderfull world together. I am moved by the kind words the devs wrote for us. A new home…that is exactly what it is we need. Lets do this together!! Let me know when it comes available for testing :)) *doing a few exercises to warm up*…here we GO ..erm..not yet? okay— *gets some coffee and starts refreshing the page ;-)* bye from the Netherlands!

  63. podle says:

Glitch was my first MMO and I miss it daily. I was podle there (and I recognize a lot of names here, which is heartening). I would be delighted to find something to play and create in, especially if it meant getting to adventure more with the wonderful people that played Glitch.

I am eagerly awaiting a chance to explore Mage Faire!

  64. Audaria (lovintnt) says:

Thank you for this post. I am yet one more Glitch and Faunasphere Refugee. I still mourn the loss of Faunasphere, so I can attest to the lingering pain of MMO loss. I’ve been discouraged in my search for a new home, and like Coffee Snob, reluctant to even try. This posting gives me hope. Thank you again.

  65. Snarkle says:

I hope to see all you lovely glitches again. Here’s hoping we can keep things weird πŸ˜‰

  66. PattyFSGlitch says:

Thank you for your understanding. I am dismayed that once again I must look for a new home. I was glad to read so many Glitch and Faunasphere friends posting here. This seems to be a place that I would like to call my new home and I look forward to helping to make this game the place all of us would like to “hang our hat.”

  67. Nezzie says:

Glitch was my first game other than word/drawing games that involved interacting with other people, so it’s been a shock to see how disappointing other games are… With this post, and so many familiar names in replies, I would be interested in trying this one. (^_^)

[It feels wrong to refer to Glitch as a game, as it really was more of a second home, and didn’t require a set type of play to enjoy. Freedom from gender-ridiculousness, non-violence, cooperation, encouraging kindness, mixed with a little crazy was something truly special.]

  68. ErinBaby says:

I was never into gaming much before glitch, but I quickly became addicted and found a wonderful community and a beautiful home. Losing that was heartbreaking and I have found nothing to fill the void.

    But this gives me hope.

  69. Gah. Thought I was through shedding tears for Glitch … at least until my art book arrives, anyway!

I am yet another Glitch refugee and I’m really thankful for your post. It’s nice to know others do actually understand. Games with violence do not repel me, I actually like quite a few of them, but I never seem to really make community there. That above all else is what I miss the most about Glitch.

I’ve followed my tribe here and signed up for alpha testing. I’m looking forward to see what develops!

    Thank you,
    Fred / Awful Horrid

  70. bee09 says:

Nice to see soo many familiar names here. Am also looking forward to the graphics evolving.

  71. Cats1524 says:

It’s hard to imagine anything as meaningful as Faunasphere or Glitch, but I have high hopes for Mage Faire. Thanks for your article. It is very encouraging.

  72. kastlin says:

Thank you so much for this blog post! Can hardly wait to start!

  73. JosephPaul says:

I have been hearing good things about Mage Faire Online in the Glitch forums and the Google+ group and decided to finally register for alpha. Can’t wait to see how many friends will be joining.

  74. Wow, so many familiar names in these comments! This is exciting πŸ™‚

  75. sgjo says:

Thank you for the beautifully written blog!
Can hardly wait to be with my Faunasphere and Glitch friends again!
I signed up for, both, newsletter and alpha testing – will be watching my e-mail with anticipation!!

(Thank you JW and im4 for letting me know about this.)

  76. Brianna (aka Llewella) says:

Yet another Glitch refugee here! Out of all the games I’ve looked at so far this game looks quite promising. The fact that so many of us are looking forward to it is a plus. As an avid gamer I can say I’ve never really found another game like Glitch in the terms of community and if the community carries over to this game it would be fantastic.

  77. Booxy Sister (L. Clark Thomas) says:

I am looking forward to finding my “new/old” Glitch family. Even though these are virtual friendships somehow along the way there is a blur with reality. It is so nice to know others know what we lost and are caring enough to help we lost Glitchen find a new home.

  78. Gwynne says:

I’m so glad to see how welcoming you are. looking forward to this game so much! πŸ˜€

  79. kat65 says:

Loved the blog post! Another Faunasphere and Glitch refugee and seeing your undedrstanding about losing our homes means a lot. Luckily we’ve always had time to get grouped before closing but it’s tough while you’re looking for that new spot to land. I appreciate you accepting this fun, caring, quirky group. Can’t wait to get started.

  80. harriette says:

I will walk with other Glitchen in this beautiful world!

  81. Magrat Garlick says:

It’s been so wonderful to look down at all the friends who have commented here. It’s reassuring to have a small group of old Glitchens that will be with me as we try to create a new home and life on this website. It’s not Glitch but that’s not to say that this website won’t developed it’s own special quirky little things and I have every faith that’ll be a good home for us old Glitchen and hopefully to a vast pool of new gamers. Glitch was heartbreaking to lose but maybe this website will fill up that hole a little. thank you for the touching post about our faithful MMO

  82. Nikki Z says:

thank you from another Glitch refugee. i have signed up for alpha testing and looking forward to seeing how this new world unfolds πŸ™‚

  83. Jennifer Larson (Jenerator) says:

I see so many friends here that I’ve missed so much already! I hope to be able to join! (((HUGS)))

  84. ennuienta says:

Wondering if there will be enough going on in-game to start another newspaper…. πŸ™‚ I’ll echo the same sentiments everyone else has said – happy to see so many familiar names, looking forward to exploring a new world!

  85. Talaria Wingfoot says:

Like so many of us Glitches, I keep going back to the Glitch forums. When I stopped by again today, I was thrilled to see Lyrical DejaVu’s post about Mage Faire. Of all the games that have been proposed, this one and only this one has all the things a Glitch’s heart desires. Nothing has come close to sounding like it might carry on the awesome Glitch love and imagination and creativity and friendliness and caring and sharing and fun and delicious humor…until now. This, dare I hope, is the game we’ve all been searching for ever since it was announced Glitch was closing our world, OUR world. I’ll do my part to spread the word and am looking forward enthusiastically to Alpha testing this brave new world.

  86. Rev. Lightbringer says:

I have moved past the reluctant interest to a definite interest in being included in Alpha testing.

This feels like a reunion of sorts πŸ™‚

  87. FyodorD says:

Sounds awesome. Looking forward to it.

  88. TrentSkunk says:

Yet another Glitch refugee hoping to find someplace to be. Hopefully this one will pan out. πŸ™‚

  89. Ishtar says:

Another Glitch here looking for a new home πŸ™‚ So excited to explore a new world here!

  90. Shmoopie Kerfuffle says:

You are so right! The loss of Glitch is like the loss of a home in a community. We are all struggling in our own way to get through this…we are still posting updates on the Glitch site, staying in touch by email and Facebook, looking back over our snapshots, etc. I do feel like I am mourning for a lost friend. As an introverted geek, I felt closer to friends on Glitch than I do to many people in my real life. And the sandbox nature of the game permitted me to be social only when I wanted to be. Thank you so much for recognizing our loss and being so supportive. I look forward to my potential new home with you!

  91. Eris Lord Freedom says:

I’m so hopeful about this. It won’t be–shouldn’t be–a direct replacement of Glitch, but maybe with so many glitchen involved, it’ll develop some of the flavor of Glitch. And maybe it can find ways to add some of the things that Glitch lacked (which there might’ve been plans to eventually add): in-game community spaces, challenges for high-level players, ways to mentor/support low-level players other than via random gifts.

I’m not worried about the community tone. If the alpha crowd includes a whole lot of Glitch players, they’ll strive to encourage fun and cooperation, in whatever ways the game mechanics allow.

It’s very reassuring to see that someone *gets it*, and welcomes us to find out if this could be our new home.

  92. Emberlyn says:

Another Glitch refugee here. Really hoping that this will be our new home πŸ™‚

*Oooh. Me too!* Wait! Are our Mages allowed to be bare? Cuz this could be a sticking point for many Glitches. *looks around for RM* lol. *snickers at nekkid magicz* Are there any snaps of this game’s avatar?

  94. Fifi says:

I was Feef in Glitch and looking forward to Alpha Testing.
I love the idea of a “no combat” game so we can all get involved in creativity and friendship and have a wonderful time. Thank you for welcoming us aboard Gordon.

  95. mrsH says:

    Felt lost…..but not anymore:)

  96. Vivkah says:

It was so very touching to read you understanding of what it means to players of any game to loose that connection.

The time playing Glitch and the money spent was not in vain but the whole it leaves behind is the hard thing to deal with.

I have already applied for gaming with you and I very much look forward to the opportunity. Whether or not I get in early will not really matter, playing with the X-Glitchen and before that, the X-Faunaspherians, will be the best part of all πŸ™‚

  97. Potian Dragoon says:

Thanks for the post it was very thoughtful of you!

I am so happy to see so many of you have found this, it makes me want to give this game a real good try, even though I was quite reluctant too.

I got the opportunity to meet a lot of you in Glitch and I am looking forward to meeting those of you I did not get to know well and being with friends again in another game.

See you all in the Alpha I hope!

  98. BlackWolf says:

*wandering aimlessly through the woods waiting for the invite*

Video looks great and if there’s something messed up us Glitches will find it πŸ™‚ Just think back to how the help channel exploded whenever some new bug showed up….
Hope to see you soon !

  99. Nancy Woodman/Phoebe Springback says:

Thank you so much for expressing our loss and hopes so well. Faunasphere and then Glitch, filled a hole in my heart, I didn’t know I had. I was so very happy to learn you were creating a similar game, with all the qualities we loved.
I hope we don’t overwhelm you with our numbers! We are many, but we are gentle. ^.^ Even if I can’t be included in the initial alpha testing, I’m looking forward to playing, and hopefully testing as soon as you can accommodate us.

  100. Cheryl (mudspots) says:

Was a Glitch player and beta tester. Thanks to Noles for sending me this game site.We all are lost right now with no where to meet up with all of our wonderful Glitch friends. Thanks for being here for us all and can’t wait to play.

Great to read comments from fellow Glitch refugees. Glitch was an amazing game, and I’d hoped to play it for far longer. It was a really creative community and I had some great conversations there. I’m looking forward to new travels through Mage Faire.

  108. Princess Zircon says:

Still another, Faunasphere, Glitch refugee! So nice to see familiar names! Looking forward to having a new home here. The post about the closing of Glitch really warmed my heart!
I feel very hopeful about this new game. Received my confirmation email!

  109. Aleph Zero says:

I was so happysad to read this blog post. Bittersweet for Glitch, super sweet for Mage Faire! Seeing so many familiar Glitchen here is another thrill. I’m really looking forward to exploring this world and adding a little bit of myself to it.

  110. Pirate Apples says:

Yet another Glitch/FS refugee. So nice to read so many familiar names here.

  111. ~Scilly~ says:

I’m a Faunasphere and now also a Glitch Refugee, and even though I feel hesitant about putting my heart into another MMO, the rest of me wants to play! So here I am, hoping to get the chance to join my friends in a new adventure.

  112. LisaNH says:

Yet another Glitchen saying hi and signed up for Alpha testing. Glitch was my first and only game and I really miss it.

  113. I echo the comments of my fellow orphan Glitchen. I’ve scoured the game world for a replacement where making things and collaborating triumph over permadeath and combat, to no avail. I have great hopes for Mage Faire and have signed up to alpha test as well. Thank you for being caring, awesome folk!

Another Glitch refugee here and I’m looking forward to helping in Alpha teting! We have all scoured the gaming world looking for a new home and I wanted to say thanks for writing a blog post and reaching out to those of us out there who need a new place in the gaming world. Best of luck in your venture and I look forward to helping!

  116. caley dunn says:

Your post has gone some way towards convincing me that mage faire is the kind of game I want to be part of. I am also heartened and comforted to see so many familiar Glitchen names posting here. Like others, I’ve spent weeks looking for a new home. Bring on the Alpha testing. I’m ready.

  117. Curiona says:

This is such a touching post. I wasn’t part of the world of Glitch for very long (a few months before it shut down), but it always felt like a safe place for me. I appreciate the welcome from Mage Faire, and I’m looking forward to hopefully creating another safe place within your world.

  118. Jan (aka: Scatje) says:

I recognize so many Glitchens on this blog! So fun to see everyone again. I would love to be part of the alpha testing. I spent a year of Glitch and still am in recovery, so part of me isn’t sure I want to try again, as I feel like a part of me really lost something when Glitch closed down. Such a sense of loss of a real community. But I guess I am willing to try again if it can be even close to what Glitch was to us all.

  119. Dewa (Louise) says:

The numbness from losing Glitch is fading as I’m reading the comments posted here. And it’s wonderful to recognize so many names of fellow former Glitchen posting comments. I would love to be a part of the alpha testing here, if there’s room for me.

  120. MizzDeeDee says:

Really hope this will be our new home. I miss Glitch like CRAZY and I haven’t been able to find anything good enough to take it’s place. Can’t wait for this to come out!

  121. MisAdventure says:

We are all so happy and excited – and that helps relieve the feelings of sadness. Thank you!

  122. FarmerGiles says:

There are so few MMOs (none that I know of) that focus on a sense of exploration, community and world-building; rather than on violence and self-serving acquisition.

That quality of being something unique and different was what made Glitch awesome. So they seem to have a similar vision here, can’t wait to give it a try.

  123. DinoChickenIdus {rylee} says:

thanks soo much. πŸ™‚ Glitch meant the world to all of us glitchians and WAS the world to those who grew to love it.

  124. Vialdana says:

Another homeless Glitchen here, reading your blog post made me think this just might be somewhere I’ll be able to call home some day soon. Have signed up for alpha testing, and am very much looking forward to it.

  125. Ann DramaDuh says:

Glitch refugee and wanna-be-alpha-tester. I spent 3 years looking for a non-violent online game where I could communicate with other players. When I finally found one, I only got to play it for 4 months. But in those 4 months, I truly made some wonderful friends. When I read the sign that Glitch was closing, my jaw dropped, and all I could do was stare dumbly at the screen. I’m sure I speak for many when I say we will gladly pay a monthly fee to Mage Faire in order to keep it viable.

  126. Yeoman (Kaushka) says:

Another Glitch Alpha/Beta/Beta tester here looking forward to being part of yet another world of curiousness πŸ™‚

  127. serenitycat says:

*waves & hugs to fellow glitchen*
Hello Gordan and staff- I’m serenitycat!
Thank you so very much for the eloquent and empathetic words! Like others – so glad to see folks who ” get it”.Glitchen ( and
Another co-op MMO) refugee here. I am SO looking forward to trying out your game . I , too, am heartened by your blog post and by seeing so many Glitchen commenting here. I hope you do well- and am willing to consider paying a sub fee every month to assist you in doing well. Thanks again, Best Wishes, and Happy 2013!~ serenitycat

  128. Fizzy Fuzzbottom (Judi) says:

Hi there! Yet another Glitchen here. I just saw info about Mage Faire on the Glitch page, so I’m excited to try it. Thanks for the blog post and for understanding. Glitch was the first game I’d played that I was truly sad to see go away. Even now, just reading your post brought tears to my eyes, which I find embarassing. LOL Looking forward to finding a new Home online. Thanks!

  129. Amagad says:

I’ll add myself to the many FS and Glitch refugees here – missing them both and desperate for a new home to move into. I’m looking forward to seeing Mage Faire πŸ™‚

  130. Glitch Refugee says:

I’ve been through alot of games that had closed, or abandoned. I love how you understand how depressing it can be to lose a game – even if they are a few pixels, but they’re alot more to that than gamers.

  131. Mr Stink says:

Another sad Glitchen here, wandering about looking for a new home. Today looks a bit brighter than yesterday… maybe, just maybe I have found a new place to put down roots? I’m looking forward to seeing what this world has to offer. It does sound promising.

  132. Emilia rosalinda says:

I’m a fellow glitchen as well, and I can’t wait to start checking this game out! Hopefully, it can fill the void in my heart.

  133. Originalauntie says:

Just another lost Glitchen here to thank you for this post. I am heartened by the number of other Glitchen that are posting here — I look forward to running around MF with you all!

  135. DizzyDazz says:

We are looking forward to becoming members of Mage Faire and it’s extended family! Thank You for having all of us homeless Glitches/Faunas.

  136. Neon Tetra says:

I am so excited about this! I’m tearing up one more time reading the comments from my wonderful Glitch friends and family. Just a heads up, we are quite a chatty bunch, lol, and I’m hopeful you will have a good chat system! But we are also a community ready made and here to help. I can’t wait to see all my wonderful friends once more and to find another game to call home.

  137. Cassandria says:

So good to see so many familiar names.
    Hi to all Glichen.
I guess I have been a bit shocked by the demise of Glitch (had been there since alpha) but life goes on and Magefaire seems to be a wonderful idea and am looking forward to it very much.
Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome and the thoughtful approach to the game.

  138. SavannaBlueRose says:

Hugs/Kisses/Splank/Moon/Kisses…Wow…Thank you MageFaire..Thanks JW & Carley for directing me out of the sadness losing FS, then Glitch, to the Brightness of MageFaire…for Lo and Behold…here Y’all are! xxooxx

  139. Kashtana says:

Hello fellow Glitchens! I hope to join you on this grand new adventure. So good to see your names again!

  140. MabLem TiiPot says:

Beautifully expressed, Gordon! What a nice welcome. Along with the many familiar Glitches that have posted here, I’m anxious to find a new place to call home.

  141. JudkinOnion Glitch says:

    *hi* rockets to you ALL.

I joined Facebook with my Glitch name after the END.
Thanks for the explanations in the above postings. They articulated the reasons I Liked it so much and do so hope to find those features in Magefaire.

I brought my emo bear so I could high five. I’m ready to make a spell for that.
Now waiting for the the ringmaster to start the show.

  142. GlitchenBob says:

I hope I can find a home here. I have been roaming since Glitch closed and haven’t been happy with anything I have found. I’ve even been tempted to learn how to code and try to write my own Glitch-like game for us hobos.
Please send me an email when time comes to test or launch.

    thanks GB

  143. Cryztal says:

As like many above I am also a lost Glitchen..many of us suffered this loss not once but twice over the last few years…and as stated in this blog which we are all truely thankful for..is that it does take a huge leap of faith, investing ones self in a new game and new home after such a loss, but in some of our cases it’s even more of a leap as we have lost two wondeful homes…and hopefully …third time lucky for us…I wish everyone involved in this project lots of success and a long life together….thank you for mentioning us all and …for understanding, we really do appreciate it. πŸ™‚

  144. Tina Turnertron says:

Oh my God! What a wonderful day this is to see so many familiar Glitchens here! Can’t wait for this game and hopefully being a Alpha tester.

  145. Grape Koolade says:

Very sweet looking graphics. And I would love to play test. Hoping my email will let me reply to your message! Glitch was a sweet fun game. I’m trying another but they are a bit rule-bound for me. One of the beauties of Glitch was the freedom. We created our “ethics” by community agreement. Any rule enforcement was done with such a soft touch that it was hardly noticed (by me at least). Of course, we were an odd community of peaceful somewhat-nerdy folk. I loved that. Hope to see you at the play test. πŸ™‚

  146. The Lone Druid of Ur says:

We Glitchen of Ur thank you humbly for your kind words. On a personal note, this endeavor seems like exactly what I have sought to fill the glitch-shaped hole inside my heart. Blessings be upon you.

  147. OMG BACON!! says:

Thank you thank you thank you for this. Magefair already sounds incredible, I can’t wait to try it out. It’s not glitch, but any game with an awesome community is fine for me. πŸ™‚ Glad to see so many familiar names in the comments, this seems like it is going to work out to become something wonderful. Frankly, something absolutely preposterous.

  148. UrMinx says:

    Hurry up! it’s Time! πŸ˜‰

    Another displaced Glitch eagerly waiting……

    Thank you for hope.

  149. Shadou says:

This game is looking great! I wish I could help out with it’s development πŸ˜€
Good job guys keep it up!

  150. SmokingLenny says:

As said above by so many: beautifully put and so heartening.

  151. Marlaglitch says:

Glitch and FS beta tester and very happy player. I’m looking forward to testing (and playing) Mage Faire. Is it March yet? πŸ™‚
