Client Update Is a Must

Posted on: November 8th, 2013 by T'nara the Wise

Don’t you just hate it when the servers crash, and we’re out of town, and we’re sitting in the airport and don’t even have a computer? I hate that.

It’s tricky to decipher what’s causing server crashes. One problem we’ve discovered is that logging in with an old version of the client that’s incompatible with the current servers can cause the servers to crash. Argh! Server crashes are bothersome for everyone, so we’ve decided to do a couple of things about that.

MUST Update

First, we’ve changed the servers to prevent logins from incompatible clients. I just sent out a client update. You MUST update to this latest client in order to log in. If you miss your window of opportunity to download the update, you can recover it by going here and entering your email (be sure to use the email you used when ordering!).

Patcher Coming Soon

We know that downloading and installing updates isn’t fun. We’ve begun work on a patcher that will make it all automatic for you. Double-clicking on your Mage Faire Online icon will launch the patcher, which will find out what updates you need, download and install them, then run the client for you. No more incompatible clients crashing the server, and no more having to download and install the updates yourself.

The patcher is not a trivial piece of software, so it’s going to take a while. But we just wanted to let you know what we’re up to. 🙂
